Experiments in airflow in my ground floor

So in the dead of winter Yellowfin was uncomfortable. My ground floor was in it’s usual Ice Rink status - we needed to work on How to get HVAC systems to flow? Traditional HVAC companies had been ...unhelpful.

So Peter K and I tried out a series of Prototypes.

I had three sources of data. The themostat for my ground floor gas fire:

And my My Nest thermostat. Uh oh. 7 degree differential!

And my body.

Yellowfin was not a very helpful KPI on account he neither speaks English nor has an LED display.

That’s why it’s going to work…

First step was to increase heat sources. More BTUs (British Thermal Unit)

I turned on the stove to broil mode. Not so secure but we’ll optimize that later!

Put a bar heater by the cat door.

Probably a reason is the crap vents, and the vents are closed.

Remove the vents. MAXIMIZE air flow.

We’ll solve aesthetics later!

Repeat-rinse. I removed all of the vents in the ground floor.

That was a good start. Temperature equalized. But not done yet! The prototypes have helped us understand the problem - more work to be done figuring the a long term aesthetic solution.
