Empathy - Example with myself

Example of myself getting upset when I couldn’t see through my ski googles because they were steamed up as a result of wearing a mask skiing:
I couldn’t find the normal tissue stations they have on the ski field for this situation. I was anxious that they didn’t have them because of Covid. I asked for help from my son who instead got annoyed with me that:
I used the word mask instead of ski googles
That I cut some people off coming into the ski lift line (because I couldn’t see).
I would love to explain the concept of empathy to my son. Quite challenging to teach this simple concept since he doesn’t like hearing most of my ideas. He has a negative narrative that I don’t listen to him which while there may be some truth from the past - it’s difficult when he is constantly looking for evidence to support his negative narrative.
