We are all different. Meetings with more than three people are difficult because half the people in the meeting:

  • Have better more urgent things to do with their time.

    • They already know of bottlenecks they could be usefully applying their time to rather than spending three hours in a meeting

  • Many won’t understand the meeting

    • They speak a different language (sometimes literally) but at the very least the jargon used won’t make sense.

    • Large meetings make it difficult for Clarification to occur. People are often embarrassed to admit they don’t understand.

  • Even two people in one conversation can have a hard time understanding each other Each person’s Narratives Alter the Meaning of one Conversation

  • That is why I structure Decentralized Company Communication around encouraging many many one on one meetings rather than big ‘all hands on deck' meetings.
