Tesla have thought out their upgrade process
So the first time I stepped into a Model 3 I was a little disappointed that it only had one rectangular screen. This was less exciting to me that when I had seen a friends earlier model Tesla - I think it was an X which had about 3 screens in an interesting form factor.
They use the same form factor on their higher end model Y and the less expensive Model 3 cars.
Tesla simplifying and standardizing the screen size to a single monitor with a standard size might seem a little boring at first but it is absolute genuis.
Why is that?
Well think of from the point view of the legion of software engineers that they employ.
How can that team go about testing their software to make sure that when they release an update across all their cars that it will work?
Well by standardizing the screen form to single standard size they just eliminated a big pain in the butt that their team would have with distributing upgrades.
It’s the upgrade process which makes the Tesla experience much better than traditional manufacturers who don’t understand how to manage software.
Two days after I bought my Tesla they rolled out a new update which included a huge new feature - blind spot cameras.
