Traditional smoke alarms suck

Cheap, flashy and annoying. This one has a repeating strobe light - lovely. Next!

I think I will get the Nest smoke alarm instead which is a nice product although much more expensive. Hmmm actually this type of product might be adequate:

Better design - no strobe lights - I am not deaf! I tried it and it was annoying - kept telling me the battery is low. Think paying $75 extra for the Nest smoke alarm will be worth the less aggravation.

Time to short KIDDE? May be not - they still seem to occupy mindshare. Not sure if losing the wiredness with other KIDDE smoke alarms in my house is a problem.
