Triage technique

Triage is a very effective management technique to manage scarce resources by making decisions more quickly on how to deal with problems.

The classic example of triage comes from healthcare:

• Don’t prioritize care to patients with no hope of survival - it’s a waste of resources

• Don’t prioritize care to patients who will be fine without immediate treatment

• Instead prioritize care to patients who for whom getting timely medical care will make difference between living and dying.

Triage is a very helpful concept for thinking about many processes which involve prioritization.
