Thematic Goal

If everything is important then nothing is important.

It’s a very common problem for organizations to have long laundry lists with an overwhelming large number of competing goals. The net result with this is that:

  • There are too many conflicting priorities

  • A lot of departmental infighting occurs

  • Individuals work on what seems most strategic to them

  • Not a lot gets done.

This is why Patrick Lencioni in his book the Advantage advocates that organizations only have one Thematic Goal in a 6-12 month period. It’s forces alignment across an organization to get things done.
