So on Boxing Day I was kind of tired and I was getting some food at a No Frills supermarket close to where I live in order to celebrate Christmas with my kids. I had my with me and I took them off so I could ask a question, putting them carefully in a little pocket in the front of my jeans.

I then forgot about them and got a little panicked when I couldn’t find them. The Find My application said they were 100m from me. I felt fairly dumb for misplacing them and went to customer support to meet Jigar who was working there.

The first thing that struck me about Jigar is how kind and patient he was. He seemed to naturally understand the need to look at things from my perspective. He helped me visualize where I came in through the front door of the supermarket and to trace back through what I was doing.

We got talking and I explained a little of what I do, mentioned my interest in the history of technology. Turned out the Jigar was studying web development and had a natural shared interest in understanding security challenges with the legacy of complexity in languages like Javascript which makes us all less secure.

Turned out Jigar had been exploring the libraries used by the and had a natural interest in security. The right person at the right time in an unexpected place. When I look for staff I mostly look at the potential? Are they curious and open to giving and receiving ideas?

Maybe some things happen for a reason. I replaced my with the pro version - they are much easier to find.
