Set up Linux Server on AWS in minutes

Amazon Web Services makes a smooth process in setting up a fresh modern Linux distribution just using your web browser. Before you can start you will need an account, so hopefully your best choice:

How your organization gives access to Amazon Web Services will vary. This is how Lev our system administrator gave iNTERFACEWARE staff access to AWS through the Google Applications:

Just go to:

Cloud Computing Services - Amazon Web Services (AWS)

And you can create a free Amazon Web Services account - you will need enter a credit card. Just be careful to only provision machines in the free tier.

If you have access to an AWS Account:

In 30 seconds I set up an AWS Linux instance which can be used for installing Iguana:

  1. Name the server - using your name and the word test is helpful to indicate to your co-workers that the machine isn’t important.

  2. Amazon Linux is an excellent choice.

  3. You have to select a “key pair”.

    1. Pick any one or make a new one - since we can connect via the Amazon web console it’s not super necessary.

For AWS to completely initialize the machine takes a little longer. I suggest you do something else - take a break, get a coffee or what ever brings you joy. Then in the next video you can see how one can easily connect to your instance:

In this case I use the build in browser tool. It’s possible to connect in other ways like ssh but that is different topic.

From just a few minutes and clicks you have a fresh working Linux machine to install IguanaX on.

Continue to download and install IguanaX.
