Current 'cloud' paradigms are dumb for home integration

Current 'cloud' paradigms are dumb for home integration

I get home.

It’s cold.

“Alexa : raise the temperature”

Silence.

Bugger - something is fucked up with Alexa - AGAIN!

Let’s see:

  • Has mystery brand router that my ISP supplied me require a reboot?

  • Is my the google cloud that my Nest home “smart” thermostat having the wobbles during to say log4J?

  • Perhaps Sonos have screwed up and I need to restart my Sonos speaker

  • Or maybe there is a problem between how Sonos, Google, Amazon are talking to each other today with their cloud APIs. (this Cloud stuff isn’t looking as great as they promised!)

I’m sorry - but all this stuff is as lame as PCs were in the 90’s when you had to waste you time getting incompatible expansion cards to work with each other. This has got to get better before the average consumer is going to trust this stuff.
