A passive asset is an arms length asset which generates money without active effort on the part of the owner.
These assets generate income without active involvement by the owner - the owner passively receives income.
So owning a some Tesla shares or a mutual fund.
But if you Elon Musk then his Tesla shares are an active assets (assuming the rules are similar in the US).
