Duplicate Iguana IDs or Chameleon Machine IDs
What are Iguana and Chameleon Machine IDs?
The Iguana ID / Chameleon Machine ID are calculated values affected by environment and hardware.Â
Given an ID is result of mathematical calculation, taking into account various environmental parameters, it is inevitable that once in a while will be hosts with identical ID values.
Iguana and Chameleon licences are linked to a specific ID, where each instance requires a unique licence code.
Why Are There Duplicate IDs?
As discussed in this VMWare documentation, often cloning a virtual machine duplicates the MAC address. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1024025
Identical IDs are sometimes caused by cloning a licensed VM, as the ID is a calculated value affected by environmental parameters and hardware. The ID is also affected by installation path to allow multiple instances to share same host.
Is It an Issue To Have Duplicate IDs?
There is no issue with having multiple Iguana instances sharing an Iguana ID.
You must generate a unique licence code for each instance, even if they share the same ID.
In this way, the different instances can have different licences applied. Activating a licence is done the same way regardless of if a different licence has been applied to another Iguana instance with the same ID.
You can use your member’s account on my.interfaceware.com to activate a new licence.
Why Do I Require a Unique Licence?
Our licensing best practices are to activate a new licence for every Iguana instance in use, even if some of them share an Iguana ID. This is helpful for managing your licences and tracking their expiration dates, as well as enabling you to transfer licences if needed. As well, this would be required per your organization’s contract with iNTERFACEWARE. As shown in the following image, the same Iguana ID can have multiple licences applied on different instances.
How Can I Change a Duplicate Iguana ID?
If you would prefer that each Iguana ID has a unique ID, this can be accomplished by changing the working directory filepath for the Iguana instance. This can be done with the steps in our documentation here: https://help.interfaceware.com/v6/how-to-move-or-copy-the-iguana-working-directory#solution
How Can I Change a Duplicate Chameleon Machine ID?
It is possible to change the Chameleon Machine ID by updating the windows registries and executing iFW’s erase machine ID utility. Since Chameleon is a legacy product, please contact iFW support for more detail either at support@interfaceware.com or through our JIRA Support Portal
