Manufacturing Consent

See Manufacturing Consent. This was a famous book by the left wing activist and philosopher Noam Chomsky.

The book refers to the ways in which the media and other institutions manipulate public opinion to support their own agendas. The theory argues that the media, while appearing to be objective and unbiased, actually serve the interests of the powerful elites in society. This is achieved through various filters and biases that shape the news and information that is presented to the public.

There were pros and cons of this. It did give a means of establishing social equilibrium.

This contrasts to the current situation with social media where we are having trouble finding social harmony because how the debate has been fractured. See Twitter has gotten worse under Elon Musk - Or has it?.
