Code reuse is not a real problem for most serious companies

Do you really want to reuse the offcuts from your green bin for your meal? Is re-using old engine oil a good idea for your car?

That’s the reality of the value of code within most organizations. Very little code is truly generic and re-useable.

Most code can be considered to be like a code dump. The value isn’t in the code, it’s the concepts and the knowledge of the people who wrote the code that is valuable.

Most companies have a maintenance and legacy problem - code re-use is a narrative that was pushed hard within the industry at various times for the purposes of selling people tools and methodologies to sole this imaginary problem.

The issue most companies have is how to reduce the amount of code and legacy you have.
