Why is windows important?

I don’t like the operating system as a consumer or programmer but it’s hard to ignore.

The problem is two fold:

• There a huge legacy of software which runs only on windows.

• Secondly the issue is that enterprises usually want support with their operating systems and Microsoft is much more friendly reasonable company to deal with than the places you would turn to support Linux. Mac OS X is nice but simply not economical for a server operating system nor does the company focus on that area.

So Windows remains important to support.
