Samsung vs. Apple Store

Samsung vs. Apple Store

This is nice example that should be easy for anyone to relate to when it comes to understanding why too many ‘features’ multiply together to create complexity that can make the solution difficult.

Samsung as a corporation provides some great products - I am using a Samsung monitor to type this. However Samsung suffers from having way too many products which make it difficult for them to give the same consumer experience that Apple is able to deliver.

Apple as one of the world’s largest most valuable and profitable corporations is able to work better by delivering a very very narrow set of product options. This lack of choice might irritate some customers but it helps them in:

  • Simplifying their supply chain both for new products and parts.

  • Apple genius bar specialists generally know Apple products very well - Samsung staff struggle to know a small fraction of what the corporation offers.

  • Apple stores usually have availability of almost the complete product range that they offer. Samsung stores can only offer a tiny subset of their products.

  • In general it’s much more confusing to get good information about Samsung products versus the much smaller array of Apple products.
