How do we find simplicity in a complex world?

To answer that question I think it helps to understand a little why our world got to be so complicated in the first place.

It’s all about history.

Every part of who we are, our technology, our social institutions, our legal system, our biology has been created through a complex process of history with different competing forces and attempts to solve the problems of the time in different ways.

To find simplicity in complexity I think you have to go back to more fundamental concepts and look for a subset of our legacy where it is possible to find simplicity through finding symmetries. What parts of our legacy can we safely ignore and find new simpler ways to solve problems?
