The 'eco-system' of consultants surrounding complex products.

This is another false promise in my opinion.

Toxic sludge would be a better description than “eco-system”.

The trouble with any consultant is that you are not their only client. So they are trying to fit you and your business into a common model. And their hourly rate is super expensive.

The worst is when you get a consultant from which you and your internal staff cannot learn from. They come, the configure things. They leave and you are left in a more confused state about your business than before they came.

This is the issue with the consultancies around products like SAP and salesforce.

You are better off with simpler products which don’t need consultants.
