Elon Musk is a System Conceptsthinker. He has a good grasp about thinking about things from an exponential rather than linear point of view and he has expansionist delusional thoughts. He sure as hell understands bottlenecks.
Like a lot of original thinkers Galileo, Socrates, Ghandi, Jesus Christ etc. he makes a lot of people uncomfortable. But there hasn’t been a single Elon Musk run company that isn’t really good. His companies are world changing thanks to his vision and risk taking. He made electric cars a reality. Starlink is making the internet universally available in the globe and so on. So why is that smart people I know feel that Twitter has gotten worse?
Well this is my theory.
Society itself today is not well regulated.
Elon has chosen to initially destabilize the network by making big changes like removing the ability of users to Block people on social media.
In the short term that increases the conflict. Some people who are traumatized have moved off the platform - see Migration seeking less conflict elsewhere. That reduces the conflict.
But the opposite is also happening. I am attracted to Twitter in a way I was never before because I am starting to understand it. It’s the only social media platform that actually gives you open reach.
Even the fact that bots are allowed is a good thing since it allows more experimentation.
Elon Is smart - he’s paid 40 billion to fix society. Kind of cheap - shame it had to be privately funded. X is hated by the media because it’s replacing them. They are not unbiased actors in this conversation. See Manufacturing Consent.
