So chickens are one of the most important sources of protein in our global food systems. A few interesting facts.

The chickens grown for meat have been shaped by North American tastes

North Americans apparently like chickens with big breasts and not legs. Don’t mean to seem rude about this but it’s just a fact.

Many consumers in Latin America and myself also find chicken thighs more tasty

Call me a leg man. Okay sorry that is a tacky joke. Sorry I actually find beauty in many different shapes. But I am told Latin American consumers find chicken thighs more tasty. I personally think they have more flavour - chicken breast meat seems pretty bland to me.

These chickens are not very healthy - temperature is really important, sanitation, antibiotics etc. yum yum yum!

I dunnoe about you but nothing to me sounds more attractive than a big juicy chicken breast with a good side of anti-biotics - delish!!! Yum yum yum!

These genetically modified chickens are not terribly healthy - their legs are too small to support their weight and that creates a lot of production issues. A lot of these chickens die during their short lives.

You have to be very careful with hygiene and temperature is very important.

So let's start by looking at the temperature problem

Sounds a bit like the https://blog.interfaceware.com/pink-daiquiri/ joke. I think the real problem might be the chickens being grown.

But eh - you have to start somewhere. Once you Shine a Light on temperature and humidity you can then start to do A/B testing and try different breeds of chicken and start to see different outcomes.

So how do we get started? Let's not use legacy solutions.

Remember that motorola flip phone you loved 15 years ago. Like to use it today? Ummmm.

Maybe not.

No if you are smart you can look globally at what is available and build a new system which will be leagues ahead of what you have today.

Shine a Light , find the bottleneck, resolve it. Rinse-repeat. Keep moving.

So I got started with Chat GPT 4.0 With Bing and found Ubibot.

See Chat GPT with Bing! .

I found Ubibot a nice Chinese company with a wide range of nicely priced products that is easy to communicate with.

 And we needed internet

So I bought a refurbished Starlink kit for $250.00. Here’s Yellowfin tired after trying out the Starlink kit which allows him to get very decent internet speed anywhere on the globe. Did you know there are now more starlink satellites in orbit than any other satellite?

https://www.starlink.com/

Okay I admit - Yellowfin didn’t set it up, but it was very easy - just use the Starlink app and away you go - easier to setup than my Bell internet not as fast as fibre but still a good option for remote rural areas of Latin American countries.

Turns out ubibot have have products aimed at dealing with chicken houses and have IFTTT integration

Done for you is faster than building things from first principles at least initially. Chicken farms need time to learn new technology and new solutions.

Don’t be afraid. Remember good leaders show Vulnerability. It’s okay to make mistakes. What’s not okay is staying still. History is full of squashed squirrels who couldn’t make a decision in the face of traffic.

This allows us to move faster. Shine a Light. Find the biggest bottleneck, solve that, rinse repeat. Keep moving fast - make decisions quickly.

Lots of interesting things to look at as the conversation continues

Did you know that some more traditional roofing products like thatch are better for temperature regulation than corrugated iron?

Interesting but first lets Shine a Light on temperature. Remember with bottlenecks mean we can relax. Find the biggest bottleneck, solve that, rinse repeat. Keep moving fast. Keep experimenting, Keep learning. Make mistakes but recover quickly. It’s all good.

Good information and good communication is the name of the game

You have to practice the art of What is a good conversation? and be open in a fast changing world. That means making it easy to communicate not just within but also communicate outside of your own organization.

You need to be open to considering the use of ‘competitors’ like IFTTT - If this then that is a ‘competitor’ for us in the same way that Dunkin’s donuts is a competitor with Nespresso.

Do yourself a favor - try out Spike - what email should be. It’s going to make it much easier to communicate internationally and find innovative chinese companies, find people in Europe who are breeding chickens with big legs. Enable you to talk there language and collaborate, innovate.

It’s possible to create kinder companies, that are more profitable, that treat their staff and animals better when you are open to communicate.
