Osmosis is the process by which a solvent, like water, moves through a semipermeable membrane from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration. This natural process helps to equalize the concentrations on both sides of the membrane. In biology, osmosis plays a crucial role in the functioning of cells, as it allows water and nutrients to pass through cell walls.

There are other gradient type concepts like Arbitrage and Air pressure equalization.
