Hey.com email is more private than Spike
Because Hey.com chooses to run the email service they provide on their own servers you get much more privacy on their option. They have no freemium option which means they don’t have to fund a bunch of freeloaders which creates a big capital drain which why a business like Spike needs a lot of investment.
With Spike they are using IMAP (see IMAP Concepts) they are still leaving your email on servers owned by:
Microsoft
Apple
Amazon
Google
All four of these businesses have huge multi-billion dollar advertising businesses. Ironically Apples marketshare of advertising went up when they did a global advertising campaign which basically hurt the ad businesses of all their rivals.
So if you care about privacy but you want to take control of your email, Hey is good option. It’s also a company which is open to communicate - with Spike you cannot even get the sales team currently to return a request to buy more licenses.
Two companies with ‘similar’ products, but very very very different philosophies and objectives.
