Spreadsheets in organizations that don’t have good control of their data are an irritating reminder of this lack of control.

Spreadsheets become islands of disconnected information. Typically only one or two people know about each one. They can be hard to maintain. The data they contain often isn’t to be found in the official information systems of the organization.

Because it’s really difficult often to see the data in your applications in a convenient manner that let’s people see the things they need to it’s inevitable that people end up managing many important business processes on spreadsheets.

Without using spreadsheets it’s not possible to manage most businesses. Everyone from mum and pop businesses to the Fortune 500, depend on spreadsheets.
