Did you know most tortoise shell cats are female?

This is Puff (the tortoise shell cat on the left) and Yellowfin (the guy wearing a tuxedo on the right). Puff is the mum and Yellowfin is her son.

She’s not always the most loving mother - or it might be I am mis-interpreting why she fights with Yellowfin sometimes.

Almost all tortoise shell cats are female. It’s what we call a “recessive gene”. This means that it is a pattern which is suppressed by the presence of a Y chromosome.
