What are common 'gotchas' for people new to a command prompt?

One gotcha is not realizing the importance of spaces when executing a command in the command prompt.

Let’s say for instance you have been asked to run this command, where there is a space between the git and the --:

git --version

And instead you enter:

git--version

The first correct form will execute a program called “git” and pass value of --version to it. The second one is asking the command prompt to execute a command which is “git--version” which most likely does not exist and therefore gives a very different response from the command prompt.
