Verbal Diarrhoea

This term describes someone who doesn’t take in account the impact they have on others when they submerge the other person under an avalanche of unrelated irrelevant information in a conversation.

From a listener’s perspective you are being bombarded with too much information. It makes it difficult for the listener to keep track of the core message in the conversation.

So as a listener on the receiving end of verbal diarrhoea then it’s perfectly polite to indicate that you are being overwhelmed by too much material.

Then it is an invitation to have more of a back and forth conversation. The listener may need help in being brought up to speed on the concepts that are relevant for the conversation.
