Question prescribed wisdom

There are a lot of things people do in marketing and sales which I would question.

Sales Funnels

This seems like a very rigid and non fundamental model that has been overly popularized by some popular CRM software packages.

It’s not that linear and you are selling to a group of people.

White papers

These are white papers which offer poor quality information. They sound like a Cosmo article. 7 tips for integration. 6 things to avoid CRM hell. In return the practice is to ask for an email address which the user knows is likely to result in a lot of spam.

We’ve just met and you are already asking me for my phone number? My number is 999, 99….

Same thing for clothing websites which immediately hit you with an annoying popup for $10 dollar discount to sign up for their newsletter. Yuck. Why not focus on making it easier for me to find the clothing I need?

Greek scrolls

These are websites you get which are “mobile friendly”. This means that you have to scroll forever. It makes it difficult to find content and see what people are actually reading. Chances are they aren’t reading anything - they are just scrolling past it all.

Blogs with Meaningless content

If you don’t have anything original or interesting to say, why have a blog. Boring. Next! Unless the blog gives genuinely original content which explains the value of the business it is probably a waste of time.
