Personally I am quite partial to Macbooks. It has a lot to do with that I really don’t enjoy windows. Our build tools work faster on Mac OS X and Linux since these operating systems support more of the POSIX standard and support the fork call. Windows under the hood from a programmers perspective is pretty complicated.
Windows from a consumer perspective got a whole lot worse with brilliant decision to turn the whole OS into ad ware 🤮. Sorry Microsoft - that is really going to hurt you bad in the long term.
Linux is just too open for me. Too messy. I’m good with it on the server but I don’t enjoy the experience of Linux on the desktop. Chrome book may be - but then that is getting more closed again.
Macbooks are not really upgradeable.
If you can tolerate windows or Linux a nice option might be this. My friend Andrew is enthusiastic about it but has not yet bought it.

What makes this special is the hardware is very easy to upgrade, no glue and screws. Super easy. Nice from an environmental point of view.
But sigh. Windows to me casts a dark shadow over any hardware joy that might be had, sigh. Maybe Linux might cross the threshold of usability for the only slightly nerdy of us 🤷🏻♂️.
