My message to my team is very simple. Keep doing what you are doing, our leads have never been better and Iguana X is in a good shape. Don’t let what I talk about distract you. But give me the respect for giving the freedom to the company to do that. And be open to converse with me and give me ideas and receive ideas. I need that to figure out ideas for what could be next. But stay focused on your work.

Currently as a company we are on our way to find a local maximum which is a good thing. My role is different in that I am trying to look what we do next which means looking at unusual places. I am far from a perfect leader - see Is Glassdoor a good tool for looking at a company's health..

It okay to recognize that the company as whole can focus on getting a local maximum and the leader can still be allowed to be creative and explore what comes next. Both the leader and the company need to open to receive one another's ideas and educate each other.

One of the challenges looking for a non local maximum is that it can require creating a big change which like Economic Step Function it can destabilize the system for the worse.

Anyway as a leader it’s important to open to receive the ideas of others and see other people’s perspective. Dr Evil would be better off if he was more open to hearing the ideas of his management team instead of just trying to clone himself:
