I got my Beth to change the PIN number which seems to have fixed the problem. To me this sounds like an issue with one of keys being broken. Ever play the game mastermind? Similar issueI was thinking we could use the same logic as with Bulls and Cows to deduce if there is a key broken.
So fixing the problem. We can get another remote. Looks like a generic version of the remote exists:
